Utilize tile samples / タイルのサンプルを有効活用

I had a brown timber shoe rack at home. It is quite old and not so attractive, but it was still usable. I didn't wanna throw away, but wanted to re-fresh the look. As I was studying Interior Design last year, I had various sample tiles that I received from interior design exhibitions.  So, I decided to put those colourful tiles onto the shoe rack. First, I separated each tile from the sample book. 

うちに古い木製の靴棚がありました。捨てるのはもったいないけど、玄関先に置いておいても冴えない感じで困ってました。インテリアデザインの展示会でもらった、大量のカラフルで可愛いタイルのサンプルで古い靴箱をリメイク出来るかもと思いつきました。まずはサンプル帳に張り付いてるタイルを１つづつ剥がす作業から。

Using a glue gun, I glued the various sample chips (they are normally used on kitchen bench top) onto the shoe rack, and made a flat surface to place tiles. 

グルーガンで、靴棚の棚の裏側からサンプルチップ（これはキッチンのまな板などを乗せる台に使われる材質のサンプルです）を糊付け。これの上にタイルを乗せていきます。

This is how it looks from above. I started to place some tiles. Considering the colour balance, just place the tiles temporarily. No glue at this point yet. 

靴棚の上から見たところ。色のバランスを考えながら、まずはタイルを仮置きしていきます。この段階では、まだタイルは固定されてません。

I decided the tile layout.  I lifted tiles and placed white clay underneath. I bought this clay at a DAISO store (DAISO is a Japanese store. I bought very light-weighted clay, which would get hard once it gets dry. Everything in DAISO is $2.80 in Sydney).

タイルのレイアウト位置を決めます。タイルを一旦、靴棚から取り除き、その部分に白い粘土（乾くと硬くなるタイプの粘土を使用。ダイソーで買ったとても軽い粘土です） 

Push the tiles into the clay. I used glue gun behind each tile to make sure the tiles stay on the base.  The top photo shows the finished product! Very charming and I love it.

タイルを粘土に押し込みます。タイルがパラパラと剥がれないように、タイルの下にはグルーガンで糊付けもしました。一番上の写真が完成品です！とっても可愛く仕上がり、お気に入りの靴棚に変身しました！
