In the local supermarket Woolworths, I have recently seen many Jamie Oliver's produced products. I don't know too much about him, but I at least know that he is a famous English celebrity chef.
While many pies and cakes are sold around $5 each at Woolworths, I found this "Created with Jamie--Tutti frutti lemon meringue pie" (500g) for $12. It looked fantastic with the colourful orange and lemon peel toppings, but $12!!
I have my own lemon meringue pie recipe and it has been always very popular among my husband and our friends. But the thing is, I had never eaten lemon meringue pies made by others. My husband has been always telling me that my lemon meringue pie taste best. But as he is my husband, he could be biased, you know? So, I decided to try Jamie's $12 pie and compare.
There was a handsome photo of Jamie on the package and it said "Free range eggs--our marvellous meringue is made with top-notch eggs" (I've been using organic free range eggs at home anyway. This is not a big surprise to me)
It is personal preference, but neither my husband nor I didn't like this pie. Both the lemon filling and the meringue had too much sugar. I normally use far less amount of brown sugar instead.
Jamie's lemon filling had kind of rough texture--I realised that his pie uses gelatine that was extracted from beef. I normally use corn meal instead and it makes a smooth and creamy texture.
近所のスーパー「Woolworths」で、セレブリティーシェフがプロデュースした「ジェイミー・オリバーのレモンメレンゲパイ」を買ってみました。店頭に並ぶ他のパイやケーキが＄５前後なのに対して、ジェイミーのパイは＄１２！！（高っ！）
私は実は、レモンメレンゲパイを買って食べたことがありません。自宅で手作りすると、旦那や私たちの友達は「すごい美味しい」と褒めてくれます。（私のレシピはここで見れます。）
でも、私自身、他の人が作ったレモンメレンゲパイを食べた事が無いので比べようが無い。。。うちの旦那はいつも「ヨーコのパイが一番美味しい！」と絶賛してくれるけど、内心「お世辞なんじゃないかしら？」と疑ってた私。なのでこの際、このセレブシェフの＄１２のパイを買って食べて見る事に。
でも、残念ながら甘過ぎ〜！！メレンゲもレモンフィリングも砂糖が甘ったる〜い。普段から砂糖の量を控えてる私たちには甘すぎたようです・・・。
