My drama career has started when my friend Shinsuke Funaki asked me to join his local English musical group, 'The Fukui Theatre Company'.  For our 1st production, we performed 'The Sound of Music'.  My role was 'Elsa' the beautiful, but mean mother-in-law.  This was my first performing experience, but I really enjoyed it. For our 2nd production, a new Canadian director Ron Dick joined and he taught 'Theatre Impro warm-up games'. This was a wake-up call for me, and lead me to pursue drama  education in Canada. I'm still thankful to Shinsuke Funaki who included me to his theatre group--this experience basically changed my life.

After I arrived in Canada, I started learning English at a ESL school in the Grande Prairie Regional Collage, Alberta. I saw drama audition notice posters on campus, but I was afraid that my English was not good enough to perform with other Canadians...but I took the audition anyway and got my role 'Amy' as a saloon prostitute.  I still remember the excitement when my director called me and said, "Congratulation. You got a role for Amy!" But he warned me that this role would require possible nudity or underwear showing on stage. I said, "I would do anything. I mean, ANYTHING if I can perform".  In the 2nd photo, I was in a 'penis' costume at a saloon--and yes, my panty was fully exposed to view. There was no nudity in the show. But 'an accident' happened on the 2nd night production, and my boob was accidentally exposed when my penis costume was taken off during the show. (I didn't notice the accident and another actress fixed it for me later on stage. But it looked so natural and audience thought it was part of the show).  I'm very thankful to the director Joe Amon who took a risk and casted me--after all, I had just arrived to Canada 3 months ago and was the only ESL student among other experienced Canadian actors.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------WORK 3--The Snow Queen (1998, Grande Prairie, Canada)

After I finished my ESL course, I enrolled the Grande Prairie Regional College and started taking drama courses. My teacher/director Karla Parks produced 'The Snow Queen' show. I played the parts of "Grandma" and "Robber Woman".  I'm very thankful for Karla for trusting me and gave me such important characters to perform.  It was a major challenge for me, but I went through the so-called 'ah-ha' moment during this creative process. Karla also introduced me an amazing book 'The Courage to Create' (written by Rollo May).  This book, along with my own 'ah-ha experiences' eventually led me to pursue my master's degree in drama so that I could learn more about creativity and its magical process.

The Courage to Create' (Rollo May著)という素晴らしい本も紹介してくれました。
